Avanu returns to TLJE With Goddess Jones(www.tenacityradio.com) to discuss his new album entitled "Sex Love and Other Shit Vol 1."
In a single parent household growing up in Bankhead, GA was far from easy for Avanu, youngest of 3. His mother wanted to keep him from being a product of his environment so she would put him in after school programs. He played tennis, was in honor chorus and also performing arts.
Avanu never knew his biological father but Morris L Owens Sr managed to call him just 2 weeks before his death. He was only 12 years of age when he saw his dad for the first time, in the casket. Not knowing how to cope with the issue he began to write, later turning these emotions into songs. His brother began to mentor him, teaching him how to manipulate words and phrases.
At 14, his mother felt it'll be best if he moved to Decatur, GA with his grandparents. During this time he began recording and singing publically in the cafeteria at lunch. Now with his debut album (LOVE MAKES HEARTS BREAK) crushing the charts, the 26 year old hopes to make an impact with his second coming album (iAM: AvaNu). "I have witnessed a lot in my life but with the right up bringing I survived. Its so easy to do wrong especially when there isn't any structure. The industry needs someone who has that painful background but will not abuse the success and that's me, Avanu."
